I generally have a good stack of books on my nightstand. Which one I choose, depends entirely on my mood. Sometimes it’s History. Other times its social commentary, but often it’s cookbooks. I love reading recipes and looking at pictures and wondering “How could I possibly improve on this” I am going to share with you, my current reading stack. Not in order of preference, but simply because of the size of the book. It made for a more visually appealing stack. Here we go!
“The Cast Iron Skillet Cookbook”
When I think back, nothing ever tasted as good as the food my Grandmother made in her cast iron skillet. Think about it. When settlers moved west in this country, they all had a cast iron skillet swinging beneath the wagon. We’ve come a long way from those days but the recipes will inspire you to return to your family’s roots. Incredible book (Thank you Nick, Jamie & Charlie) This is also the basis of the new Restaurant “IRON” from Chef Chris Perkey. His recipes are so delicious that its difficult to describe. You just have to try it for yourself at 25 Ottawa in Grand Rapids Michigan. Thank you Chef!
Next up is “Driftwood” by Ray Bentley
Ray is a local sports hero, much revered in Michigan. He was both a high school and college star who went on to play in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills and appear in two Super Bowls. If I told you everything he has done, we’d be here all day. I am thrilled to call him a friend because after 10 years as an NFL linebacker, frankly, he scares the hell out of me. Driftwood is perfect for the football geek. We all wonder what is said in the huddle. We all wonder what it’s like in the locker room. This book is pure Ray, and its as close to “Real” as you and I will ever get. Read it. You’ll love it!

“Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates” by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yeager. As you know, I am a history nut. This book is incredible. Did you know that we have been fighting Muslim extremists since the time of Thomas Jefferson? It’s a fact. Read about the forgotten war that changed American History.

“And The Good News Is” Lessons and advice from the good side
I love this woman! (Jeanie approves) Dana Perino has written a book that every young person (High school or college) should read. Brilliant!

“Why NOW is the time to Crush It!”
Finally, I am reading Gary Vaynerchuck. Yes, he’s a bit off the rails and uses a colorful word from time to time but If you are looking for inspiration and want to cash in on your passion, here ya go. Gary built a 60 Million dollar business doing it his way. Now, do it YOUR way!
